Ray and Stephanie Lane Fellows in Computational BiologyThe Lane Fellow Program will recognize and support scientists of outstanding intellect who are dedicated to a career at the interface of computational and biological sciences so that they can pursue postdoctoral research in the rich computational environment at Carnegie Mellon. Candidates may be nominated by their thesis advisor, department head, or another faculty member from their Ph.D. granting institution who is familiar with their qualifications. Absent special circumstances, nominees must have received their doctoral degree after August 1, 2006 or be expected to receive their degree by August 1, 2008. The nominator must provide a letter of recommendation that describes the significance of the candidate's past work, their qualifications for interdisciplinary work, and the basis for considering them as potential future leaders in computational biology. Nominations must be received by October 1, 2008. After initial review, some nominees will be invited by November 15th to submit a short application. Unsolicited applications will not be considered and candidates may not nominate themselves. After invitation, candidates will be responsible for identifying a sponsoring department(s) and research advisor(s) at Carnegie Mellon. Lane Fellows will receive a stipend of $54,000, full fringe benefits including and a professional support allocation of $6,000 to cover items such as purchase of a laptop computer, travel to conferences, membership in relevant professional societies, and journal subscriptions. Three to five Lane Fellows will be selected for a three year appointment beginning approximately July 1, 2009. Successful candidates will be notified by January 31, 2009.
